Snowkite championship Marathon “Zhigulyovskoe more-2011”

3rd February 1100 a.m. in bar-restaurant “Zhara” within the bounds of marathon “Zhigulyovskoe more-2011” was an opening of 2nd stage Russia snowkiting cup. At 1200 start procedure begun, but entry forms were accepted till start of racings. As a result there were accepted 79 entry forms. 49 from them are marathon ski racers, 21 marathon snowboard racers and for freestyle 2 ski racers and 7 snowboard racers. For the first time in history two racers from Togliatti – Aleksey Novikov (aged 27) and Vadim Erofyev (aged 37) will compete in freestyle in snowboard. Vadim Erofyev for his previous races in marathon “Zhigulyovskoe more” is known as a strong snowboard racer.
During start there was a south-east wind about 6m/sec, with temperature -13Co. Racers had to cover distance which consisted of three loops- 1st loop about 29 km with wind abeam, 2nd and 3rd loops about 17km each, tacking. Snowboard racers had to cover just 1st and 2nd loop. Summary distance was 46 km for snowboard racers and 63 km for ski racers in general course. But on the first loop racers, covered half distance went into dead calm, so this race was cancelled. The main referee Leonid Bubnov (Togliatti) pronounced the race cancellation at 1255 . After racers return, referees team informed that the next race is on 4th February.
Astonishingly, the wind blew near the bank. After kicker was fully done, freestyle races begun first on single elimination system and after that on double elimination. Single results in snowboard are – 1. Aleksandr Gryanik (Novosibirsk) 2. Aleksandr Popov (Nigniy Novgorod) 3. Artem Garaschenko (Ekaterinsburg). As referee Tatyana Sysoeva said racers have to make 3-4 rounds on 4th February, to finish the Double. She also said that racers from Togliatti pretty surprised the referee team. The only ski racer Anton Cherkashin (Moscow, aged 17) while waiting for his rival gave to photographers and video operators an exhibition performance. The second ski racer – Anton Udjegov from Perm arrives tomorrow, and after his arrival emulative rounds will start. Remind that the main referee for freestyle is Denis Garaschenko from Ekaterinsburg.
Marathon race was with satellite control, given by “Vi-Tel” company, which produced racers with trackers. During the race viewers could see the racers movement on a big screen monitors in bar-restaurant “Zhara” and also online on “Vi-Tel” company’s official site. According to statistics there were 43 online viewers on this site during the race.
Tomorrow in Togliatti will be warming with wind enforcement up to two times more than today. Also there are new racers will join and in the evening there will be a seminar for theme – “Autonomous marathons on kite. Experience, equipment, photo and video”, lecturer – Andrey Kulachkov, Moscow.
The organization committee expresses their thanks to official dealer Nissan in Togliatti and Samara region GSC “Vikingi” for cars, which transfer racers to start place. Commercial car “Cabstar” goes very will with equipment transporting, and the racers were delighted with strength, design and comfort of white “Qashqai”
